Grant Amount:
$86,600

Mission Statement

Community Servings is dedicated to providing free home-delivered meals throughout Easstern Massachusetts to people homebound with HIV/AIDS and other life threatening illnesses, who are unable to shop or cook for themselves. They provide their clients, their dependent families, and caregivers appealing, nutritious meals, reaching out to those in greatest need.

Purpose of Grant

$86,000 for staffing capacity and kitchen equipment to support their "Meals for Many" social enterprise.

Additional Information

Profits from "Meals for Many" will be used to support the organization’s free meals service so more of the critically ill can be served.

Community Servings has innovatively linked its "Meals for Many" social enterprise with its new Teaching Kitchen job-training program.  The program provides trainees with barriers to employment with classroom-based instruction and hands-on training alongside Community Servings staff.  Community Servings also offers an apprenticeship program, which provides four job training students per year with opportunities to become short-term employees, further developing their food-service skills and better positioning them for employment that, as Community Servings notes, “will end their own cycle of hunger and poverty.”
